Common Treatments for Ulcerative Colitis

A Diet with Less Residue

People with ulcerative colitis would get significant relief during a flare-up if they follow a low-residue diet. This is because those foods will result in fewer and smaller bowel movements, thus minimizing the symptom of abdominal pain and diarrhea. With that in mind, you should stay away from nuts, seeds, beans, pickles, popcorn, sauerkraut, cheese, and tough meats. Instead, go for the following foods:

– Grain products such as cooked cereals, toast, crackers, white bread, and noodles

– Soft fruits, including avocado, cantaloupe, or bananas

– Well-cooked veggies without seeds, such as carrots, beets, asparagus, squash, spinach, mushrooms, tomato sauce, or pumpkin

– Lean, soft, and tender meat [4]
