12 Foods That Stop Diarrhea

What we consume at every point in time is very important. I agree with a saying that “you are what you eat.” A healthy diet consumed in the right proportions and prepared cleanly goes a long way to nourish our bodies and combat infections as well. It is therefore vital that you eat the right foods when diagnosed with any form of illness, as the right foods will help to improve symptoms and manage the disease.

Diarrhea is loose, watery stools or a frequent need to have a bowel movement. Many people have diarrhea once or two times a year, and in many cases, it comes and goes on its own. Nevertheless, diarrhea can be the symptoms of chronic disease and therefore last for weeks. In this case, immediate medical treatment is needed. Certain foods have been researched to help symptoms of diarrhea; these foods are referred to as bland foods. They are:

1Hot Cereals

When battling with a bout of diarrhea, fill your diet with bland foods, as spicy and complex foods can complicate issues and worsen the symptoms. Hot cereals such as oatmeal, cream of wheat, rice porridge are foods that help to soak up fluid and reduce bowel movement. Cereals are very high in fibers, and they take longer to digest, thereby assisting in the maintenance of the digestive system. These foods are safe and soothing for a digestive system that is in turmoil. Cereals also do not contain fatty, spicy or sweet properties which can further irritate the intestinal lining. [1]
