Lower the Risk of Heart Disease
One of the major risk factors of heart disease is high cholesterol levels. Seaweed can help reduce the risk by lowering this measurement. More specifically, studies have found out that regular intake of seaweed can lower the levels of triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol. Heart disease could also be caused when blood clotting is excessive. Interestingly, fucans in seaweed can be as effective in preventing this problem as anti-clotting medications. The benefit of seaweed on heart disease can also be attributed to protein-like structures called peptides. They are able to block a pathway that raises blood pressure. Nevertheless, more research is needed to verify the findings. [8]
