Hand Exercises for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Relief

Thumb Crosses

Rheumatoid arthritis would affect the carpometacarpal joint, which is located at the thumb’s base. This may lead to weakness, aches, and stiffness. As the thumbs play a key role in many daily tasks, it is essential to maintain muscle strength and range of motion of these joints with thumb crosses. Start with extending the thumb and fingers straight up like giving a high-five. Next, bring the thumb across the palm to the base of the pinky finger. Stay in this position for 5 seconds and relax. Repeat 10 times before switching to the other hand. [2]
