The process of planting GMOs often includes the addition of some new genetic components into the soil. This would leave some residual effects that might last for many years. While current research is still limited, some studies have shown some negative complications for the local environments and public health. Currently, the best way to minimize this risk is to ensure tight cooperation between farmers and scientists for proper cultivating and harvesting methods. [10]
