GMO Facts – Pros and Cons

Reduced Crop Diversity

Another concern about GMOs is that these crops would threaten genetic diversity in specific areas. The main reason for this problem is that genes from some GM seeds would spread to some species. As a result, they will grow and dominate other plants in the region. In the long run, other species that cannot compete will gradually reduce in number. This can be a major problem in large-scale crops that take up thousands of acres. A drop in the local flora would eventually lead to a similar reduction in the fauna or even biodiversity of the whole area. [11]
