Foods to Avoid

Potatoes contain a lot of potassium, which may be a problem for those with kidney disease, particularly people in late stages. On average, a medium baked potato provides up to 610 milligrams of potassium. If you consume too much potassium, the kidney is unable to get rid of the extra amount. As a result, this mineral may stay in the blood and lead to some health issues. If you eat potatoes, consider leaching or soaking them to lower the potassium levels. However, due to high carbohydrate content, it is still advisable to consume this food in moderation if you have kidney issues. [1]
