Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension – Symptoms & Causes

Pulmonary arterial hypertension, also known as PAH, is a rare type of high blood pressure. This condition happens in the pulmonary arteries, which connects your lungs and heart. It narrows the arteries and prevents your heart from pumping blood to other organs. As a result, your heart needs to work harder, thus increasing blood pressure significantly. While most cases tend to be mind, some forms can be serious and get worse over time. Below are some common symptoms and causes of pulmonary hypertension that everyone needs to know.

17 Symptoms of Pulmonary Hypertension

Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath is one of the most typical and earliest signs of pulmonary hypertension. In general, the blood vessels and arteries are responsible for transporting blood between your heart and lungs. The exhale-inhale activities would bring oxygen to these organs. However, pulmonary hypertension leads to a lack of oxygen, thus making it difficult for the body to breathe as usual. The symptom tends to get worse when you are doing physical activities, such as walking, working out, or running. Even when you take a rest afterwards, shortness of breath can still happen. [1]
