What Is Vascular Dementia?

Vascular dementia, also known as vascular cognitive impairment, is a term that refers to several conditions that would reduce cognitive skills. This subsequently leads to many issues related to memory, judgment, and reasoning. Symptoms can happen unexpectedly or they would go unnoticed and remain mild at first. The main cause is a lack of blood flow or a blockage in the brain. As a result, this organ is deprived of oxygen needed for basic functions. Along with Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia is one of the most common causes of dementia. [1]
