8 Common Facts about Shoulder Impingement Syndrome

What is Shoulder Impingement Syndrome?

Shoulder impingement, also known as swimmer’s shoulder or impingement syndrome, is one of the most common causes of pain in the shoulder. It is especially prevalent in swimmers and athletes who have to move this body part regularly, such as softball or baseball players. The condition occurs when the rotator cuff tendon becomes inflamed. This band of tissue is known for connecting the muscles between the arm and shoulder. Symptoms tend to improve in several weeks, but they may also become chronic. [1]
