How to Diagnose Caudal Regression Syndrome
The first symptoms of caudal regression syndrome typically occur around weeks 4 to 7 of pregnancy. Most cases can be diagnosed around the end of pregnancy’s first trimester. If you have gestational diabetes or diabetes during pregnancy, an ultrasound can be done to look for possible signs of caudal regression syndrome. Otherwise, regular ultrasound exams may identify any fetal abnormalities. If a doctor suspects the disorder, they would do an MRI after week 22 to get more details of the fetus’s lower body. After birth, an MRI can also be performed to verify the diagnosis and determine the severity. [5]
