What Is Caudal Regression Syndrome?

Treatment Options for Caudal Regression Syndrome

Treatment for caudal regression syndrome depends on the affected organs and the severity of the condition. Some children would need specially made crutches, leg braces, or shoes to move and walk around easily. Another option is physical therapy, which helps the children improve their strength in the lower part and gain more control of their movements. Those with underdeveloped legs may walk with the help of prosthetic or artificial legs. If the condition causes difficulty controlling the bladder, a catheter may be used to drain urine. For children with an imperforate anus, surgery can be performed to open a hole in the intestine and remove stools out of the body. Other surgical procedures may also help treat some other symptoms of caudal regression syndrome, such as inguinal hernia or bladder exstrophy. [6]
