What is a Tibial Plateau Fracture

Treatments for a Displaced Tibial Plateau Fracture

When the tibial plateau fracture involves bone displacement, surgery is needed to realign this part and restore stability of the knee joint. Depending on the fracture pattern, there are some surgical procedures to choose from. In most cases, the doctor will place plates and screws into the fractured bones. This helps keep the bone fragments in place. Only screws are often used when one bone piece has broken off and could be repositioned easily. When bones are properly lined up, small incisions can be used with the help of an X-ray. When more displacement occurs, a bigger incision is necessary. [8]
