What Is Transverse Myelitis?
Transverse myelitis is a rare neurological condition that inflames the spinal cord. This eventually leads to damage to the myelin, which covers nerve cell fibers. The disease can affect and interrupt communication between the spinal cord and other parts of the body. Anyone would develop transverse myelitis and it is not associated with family history or genetics. Many treatments are available to reduce the inflammatory response, which can reduce the risk of recurrences and neurological deficits.[1]
