Social Withdrawal in Social Anxiety Disorder and Depression
Even though both social anxiety and depression would result in social withdrawal, the underlying cause is not the same. Depression causes people to avoid social interactions because they do not feel interested or enjoyed. In other words, it is not any fun for them to go to a party or make new friends. On the other hand, individuals with social anxiety withdraw from these activities due to the fear of being judged, humiliated, or evaluated by other people. [10]
