What Is Small Cell Lung Cancer?
Small cell lung cancer, also known as oat cell cancer, is a fast-growing form of lung cancer that affects the lungs’ tissues. It is not common and only affects around 10 percent of people with lung cancer. However, it is more aggressive and tends to spread to other parts of the body. Once you are diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, cancerous cells have actually spread outside of your lungs. Despite successful treatments, the condition is likely to recur in the future. There are two subtypes of small cell cancer, including combined small cell carcinoma and small cell carcinoma. [1]
