Facts about Larotrectinib

Overview

Kinases are enzymes which phosphorylate enzymes or substrates in a series of reactions that promote cell growth. If allowed to continue their action, some of these kinases promote the growth of malignant tumor cells too. The good thing is that the action of these enzymes can be stalled before they wreaked havoc in the body. Several types of kinases are inhibited by larotrectinib. Larotrectinib is the generic name for drugs which inhibit TRK (tropomyosin receptor kinase). It works against cancer, especially when the genes are infused with NTRK (neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase). Hence, Larotrectinib belongs to a class of drugs called Targeted Therapy Medications. By blocking kinases in a reaction chain, cancerous cell growth may be slowed down significantly. However, Larotrectinib isn’t sold in its generic form, but rather with the brand name Vitrakvi. The drug is approved for the treatment of solid tumors by the Food and Drug Administration of the US. You could consult your doctor for advice. It is obtainable from speciality pharmacies around. Your oncologist will work out a plan to get you the drug. [1]
