Cialis Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & More

What Is Cialis?

Cialis is a drug that belongs to the class of medications called PDE5 inhibitors. It contains the active ingredient Tadalafil which can relax smooth muscles in the penis. As a result, more blood flow can flow into this area. Doctors often prescribe for treating erectile dysfunction. In people with this disease, the body is unable to keep or get an erection long enough during sexual intercourse. In addition, the medication can help people with enlarged prostate, medically known as benign prostatic hypertrophy. Cialis is only available in tablets, which should be taken orally. [1]

How Does Cialis Work?

Cialis is a type of PDE5 inhibitor. These medications work by binding to the PDE5 enzyme. The enzyme typically plays a key role in breaking down GMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate) molecules, which help relax smooth muscles in the penis. As a result, more blood flows into these blood vessels, resulting in an erection. Keep in mind that Cialis does not cure erectile dysfunction. Psychological and physical arousal is still needed for the drug to help create and maintain an erection. [2]
