Carrot Allergy – Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Risk Factors

Allergy for carrots carries far into other foods in the parsley family. So, if you’re allergic to carrots, it is possible you’re allergic to other fruit in its family too. Consuming these plants is a risk factor for having symptoms similar to those of carrot allergy. Plants in this family include cumin, parsley, fennel, parsnips, caraway, coriander, dill, and celery. You should avoid the raw forms of these foods if you’re allergic to carrots.

Another factor to consider is your family history. Having a family member who is allergic to carrots or other foods in its family is a risk factor in itself. People who are allergic to birch tree pollen are usually allergic to carrots. This is because both foods contain similar proteins. [2]
