X-Linked Hypophosphatemia (XLH) – What to Know

Treatment Options for X-Linked Hypophosphatemia

The main goals of treatment for people with X-linked hypophosphatemia are to manage the symptoms and encourage normal growth. Currently, two options are available to help deal with the metabolic triggers of this condition. These include:

– Taking phosphate and vitamin D supplements to alleviate or even reverse the symptoms of X-linked hypophosphatemia in kids

– Taking a drug called bursomab. This monoclonal antibody treatment may inhibit FGF-23, which reduces phosphate wasting and increases the levels of blood phosphate

In addition, there are some other treatment options to help deal with specific complications and symptoms of X-linked hypophosphatemia. These include:

– Wearing hearing aids

– Getting growth hormone therapy

– Occupational and physical therapy

– Taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs to alleviate joint and bone pain

– Orthopedic surgery to repair misaligned joints and fractured bones [6]
