What Are the Types and Levels of Autism?

Rett Syndrome

Rett syndrome is a rare type of autism that mainly occurs in female children. In most cases, the symptoms are quite similar to those of childhood disintegrative disorder and Asperger’s syndrome. A typical sign is the loss of hand function, making it harder for them to use the hands for daily tasks. People with Rett syndrome tend to wring the hands and clasp the hands together. In addition, their self-help and language skills would lose over time. The condition is also linked to low muscle tone and impaired motor skills. Therefore, those with Rett syndrome tend to need lifelong therapy and assistance. [4]
