What Are the Types and Levels of Autism?

Childhood Disintegrative Disorder

In most cases, symptoms of autism occur rather predictably. Childhood disintegrative disorder is different. This is considered to be a low-functioning type of autism with severe symptoms, which do not show up until the age of 10. People with this condition are likely to reach development milestones early. They may do the following things at young ages:

– Making eye contact

– Accepting physical affection

– Relating to other people

– Stringing a phrase with two or three words

– Developing basic self-care skills

However, they will lose these skills and abilities over time and require support for the rest of their lives. [3]
