Medications
There are drugs that can help alleviate the effects of behavioral issues and control tics. However, this is not a recommended treatment as the effects are only temporary and there are also many severe side effects. In most cases, these medications are often used for those people with severe Tourette’s syndrome. Some common options include:
– Drugs to reduce or block dopamine: pimozide, haloperidol, or fluphenazine
– Botulinum to paralyze muscle tissues and control tics on the neck and face
– Anti-seizure drugs such as Topamax
– Central adrenergic inhibitors like guanfacine and clonidine to reduce and control rage [12]
