Behavioral Inhibition
Behavioral inhibition is a behavior in kids and toddlers in which they tend to become upset or panic when faced with unfamiliar or new things. As a response, they often cling to the parents, withdraw from social activities, or even cry excessively. When behavioral inhibition lasts for a long time, it would increase the risks of developing a social anxiety disorder in these kids later in their lives. Since this is typically an inborn trait, which would be resulted from biological factors, it is important for parents to consult a doctor for professional support. Early intervention would be useful in preventing further complications. [6]
