Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease. It triggers the immune system to attack healthy nerve cells in the body, thus interrupting communication between the brain and other body parts. Early symptoms include tingling, weakness, or numbness, in the limbs. However, multiple sclerosis could be episodic. Symptoms can also vary from person to person, depending on the location and number of lesions in your brain. This makes it difficult to diagnose the condition. When your doctor suspects multiple sclerosis, an MRI or spinal tap would be used to confirm it. [8]
