How Does Diabetes Affect Sleep?

Effects of Diabetes on the Body

Diabetes is a medical condition that affects the production of insulin in the body. Released by the pancreas, insulin plays a key role in controlling the amount of glucose in the bloodstream. Without sufficient insulin, the body cannot store glucose in the muscles, fat, and liver. As a result, it would affect the metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbs. There are different types of diabetes, including prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. People with diabetes may have excess levels of glucose in their blood, which would eventually affect their sleep. [1]
