For many dog owners, ticks can be a common concern. These species carry some diseases that would harm their pets, such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, spotted fever, or canine ehrlichiosis. Therefore, it is important to protect them and provide proper treatments in case of contact. In this article, we list some common ways to treat and prevent tick bites on dogs.
Tick Shampoos
There are many flea-and-tick shampoos that are made to get rid of dog ticks. Some products can even provide lingering effects to prevent ticks in the next few weeks. You can easily find them in many pet stores or local groceries. Firstly, put your pet into a bucket or tub and wet the fur with lukewarm water. Apply the shampoo and work it up into a lather. Wait around 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing with water. Keep in mind to protect the ears and eyes of your dog because some ingredients would cause irritation. Most shampoos do not work on embedded ticks. [1]
