How Depression Affects Your Body

Depression and Digestive System

People might find it hard to believe but there is a connection between depression and the digestive system (the brain-belly connection). The gastrointestinal tract is sensitive to mood swings and some tummy problems including gastric distress, stomach cramping, and appetite loss are often regarded as signs of having depression. According to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), people with depression are more likely to develop digestive diseases of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). When you get depressed, you probably tend to overeat or lost appetite. Eating irregularly could affect your body health and cause stomach problems such as stomach pains, constipation, and diarrhea. No medicine could be used to treat the above problems unless people switch to a healthy diet.
