Cymbalta – Uses, Side Effects, and More

Cymbalta & Its Uses

Duloxetine, which is sold under the brand name Cymbalta, is a type of selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. It is often used for treating generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. The medication works by affecting chemicals in the brain, namely norepinephrine and serotonin, which would be unbalanced in those with depression. Some doctors also prescribe Cymbalta for those with osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, joint pain, and chronic muscle pain. [1]

The main use of Cymbalta is to treat major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It should only be used for short-term effects as the effectiveness of the medication for more than 9 weeks or longer has not been scientifically proved. Some doctors also prescribe Cymbalta for treating other health issues, such as osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, joint pain, and chronic muscle pain. In some cases, Cymbalta can be used off-label for lower back pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, and stress urinary incontinence. [2]
