Treatments for Uncomplicated Gonorrhea
Uncomplicated gonorrhea in the eye, throat, urethra, rectum, and cervix would be often treated with a single dose of azithromycin and ceftriaxone. In general, azithromycin can be taken orally in pills, whereas ceftriaxone can be injected into a muscle. Other antibiotics would also be prescribed, but only when a drug allergy occurs. The recommended dosages are as following:
– Throat, urethra, rectum, or cervix gonorrhea: 250 milligrams of intravenous ceftriaxone and a single dose of 1 gram oral azithromycin
– If you have a ceftriaxone allergy: 320 milligrams of oral Gemifloxacin and 2 grams of oral azithromycin in 2 days
– If you have an azithromycin allergy: 250 milligrams of intravenous ceftriaxone and 200 milligrams of oral doxycycline in 7 days [8]
