Glaucoma Causes & Risk Factors

Aging

Glaucoma can affect people of all age groups. However, elderly people are the most affected group. It is estimated that most cases occur in those who are 60 years old. This is probably because aging can reduce your eye health and increase the risk of eye issues related to glaucoma. In addition, many medical conditions that would lead to glaucoma tend to be more prevalent in older people. Before reaching 40 years old, you should have your eyes examined every 2 to 4 years. After reaching 40 years old, aim for every 1 to 3 years. After reaching 55 years old, have your eye checked every 1 to 2 years. After reaching 65 years old, you should check your eyes on a yearly basis.[3]
