What Is Conjunctivitis?
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is a condition that causes an infection or inflammation in the conjunctiva or transparent membrane in your eyes. This part covers the white part of the eyeball and lines the eyelid. When the condition occurs, it inflames small blood vessels in this area and makes them visible. That’s why your eyes become pink or reddish. Conjunctivitis can be triggered by an allergic reaction, a viral infection, or a bacterial infection. Although this is an irritation condition, it rarely affects overall vision. Many treatment options are available to alleviate your symptoms and prevent the condition from spreading. [1]
