Catatonia – Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Types, Treatment

Risk Factors for Catatonia

Catatonia is more common in women than in men. Also, the risk tends to increasewhen you age. Though the condition has historically been linked to schizophrenia, scientists now consider it as a separate condition. It is estimated that around 10 percent of people with chronic mental illnesses, especially mood disorders and schizophrenia, develop catatonia. Other possible risk factors are postpartum depression, the use of ciprofloxacin, low salt levels in the blood, and cocaine abuse. [4]
