Basic Procedure of an ALT Test
Below are basic steps for an ALT test:
– An antiseptic is used to clean the skin
– An elastic band is tied around the upper arm to stop the blood flow and make the veins more visible
– A needle is inserted into the vein to draw blood into a tube
– Once the doctor collects enough blood, he will remove the needle and elastic band
– A gauze or piece of cotton is placed over the site
– The blood sample will be analyzed in the lab [4]
