The Rh Blood Group System
Based on the RhD antigens in red blood cells, blood can be divided further into 8 groups:
– A+ or A RhD positive
– A- or A RhD negative
– B+ or B RhD positive
– B- or B RhD negative
– O+ or O RhD positive
– O- or O RhD negative
– AB+ or AB RhD positive
– AB- or AB RhD negative
Positive means RhD antigens are present in red blood cells, while negative indicates the absence of these components. Most people have RHD positive blood. [4]
