How Your Blood Type Can Affect Your Health

The ABO Blood Group System

Based on the ABO antigens, blood can be divided into 4 main types:

– A group contains A antigens on the outside of red blood cells and anti-B antibodies in plasma

– B group contains B antigens on the outside of red blood cells and anti-A antibodies in plasma

– O group contains no antigens, but anti-B and anti-A antibodies are present in plasma

– AB group contains no antibodies, but both A and B antigens

The most common blood type is group O, which can be given to other groups. On the other hand, group A and group B should not be given to each other. [3]
