What Is Acid Reflux?
Acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux or regurgitation, occurs when stomach contents move back up into the esophagus. It may lead to a burning sensation in the chest that can be uncomfortable and move up to the throat or neck. This feeling may also be known as heartburn. You can also feel a bitter or sour taste at the back of the mouth. When acid reflux happens more than two times a week, it may indicate the presence of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Other symptoms of this condition include chest pain, nausea, trouble swallowing, pain, hoarseness, chronic cough, or a bad breath. [1]
