How to Measure Your Pupillary Distance (PD)?

What to Prepare to Measure the Pupillary Distance and How to Measure Pupillary Distance?

To measure the pupillary distance, you can use any ruler marked with millimeter units. If you cannot find one, consider printing out a measurement ruler that can be found on the website of many eyeglass retailers or vision centers. Also, you need to prepare a mirror placed in a well-lit space. Make sure the surface is clear so that you would see the markings of the ruler. [6]

Stand around 20 cm in front of the mirror with your head upright and straight. Keep the ruler above the eyes and across the eyebrows. Close one eye and hold the 0 mark above the center of the other eye. Make sure to get the right alignment with the 0 mark since it would change the reading of the measurement. Next, open the eye and find the right mark on the pupil. Make sure you look straight ahead at the mirror. The number lining up with the pupil’s center is the pupillary distance. You should measure 3 or 4 times to ensure that the results are consistently precise. [7]
