Generalized Anxiety Disorder Natural Remedies & Medications

Serotonin and Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors

Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors or SNRIs are other forms of antidepressants that can be taken for treating symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder. They work by increasing the levels of two neurotransmitters in the brain, namely noradrenaline, and serotonin. Duloxetine and venlafaxine are the two most commonly prescribed SSRIs. Some common side effects of these medications include sweating, insomnia, constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, or headaches. SSRIs may also increase blood pressure, so you should have your blood pressure checked regularly during your treatment. [6]

Pregabalin

If both SNRIs and SSRIs do not work for your symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, your doctor may prescribe pregabalin. This is a form of an anticonvulsant that is often used for treating epilepsy. However, studies have also found that it can benefit people with anxiety. There are several possible side effects of pregabalin, including vertigo, dry mouth, headaches, blurred vision, increased appetite, weight gain, dizziness, or drowsiness. [7]
