Safety of Nipple Stimulation for Pregnant Women
In healthy women, nipple stimulation is unlikely to result in any problems, such as miscarriage or premature labor. Many people actually breastfeed another baby during pregnancy. Although oxytocin is produced with nipple stimulation, the uterus only gets sensitive to this technique when close to labor, in an uncomplicated pregnancy. To ensure safety, it is not advisable to perform nipple stimulation during pregnancy when:
– Your doctor advises against it
– You have a high-risk pregnancy or are at a high risk of pre-term labor
– You have some complications during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, or pre-eclampsia [6]
