Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Stages: What to Expect

Overview of Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is a potentially disabling condition that affects the spinal cord and brain. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin or protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers. This leads to communication issues between the central nervous system and other body parts. As a result, the disease would permanently damage the nerves. Symptoms of multiple sclerosis can vary a lot, depending on the amount of damage and stage. There is currently no cure for the disease. Nevertheless, certain treatments may help manage the symptoms.[1]
