12 Common Bug Bites and How to Identify Their Symptoms

Mosquito Bites

Mosquito bites appear as round, puffy, small marks. They tend to be redder or lighter than the surrounding skin. These insects tend to bite the back of the necks and knees, hairlines, or ankles. The bumps are mostly isolated rather than a part of clusters unless you stay outside in a mosquito territory during dusk or dawn. At first, most mosquito bites do not cause pain, but very itchy. However, they may pose a risk of some diseases, such as Zika, West Nile, or malaria.  [4]

Ant Bites

Ant bites tend to be painful and result in red bumps on the skin. Fire ants and other kinds of ants are especially venomous, which may bite and lead to a serious allergic reaction. These insects tend to hold on your skin first before stinging, which causes a burning sensation and sharp pain. You may notice white blisters or pustules filled with fluids 1 or 2 days after being bitten by ants. The symptoms may last 3 to 8 days and would cause scars. Other possible signs include redness, swelling, and itching. Do not break open or scratch the blisters to prevent an infection.  [5]
