Teriparatide, with a brand name Forteo, is a human parathyroid hormone synthetic version. This medication is the only osteoporosis medicine that helps increase bone formation, thus reducing the risk of fractures and increasing the density of your bones.

It is administered by injecting subcutaneously (under the skin) once in a day for about 18 months. After which your doctors prescribe a different medicine to help manage osteoporosis.
Teriparatide is not advisable for those with Paget’s disease, not up to the age of 25 or who previously have had radiotherapy. It can result in headaches, dizziness, and leg cramps, even pain at the point of injection, as well. [5]
