Causes of IBS
It is still unclear what causes IBS. Previous studies suggest that an overly sensitive immune system or colon may be the possible triggers. On the other hand, post-infectious IBS occurs when a previous bacterial infection affects the gastrointestinal tract. Due to the availability of so many causes, it can be challenging to prevent IBS. Some risk factors for the development of IBS might include neuroticism or somatic symptom disorder, depression, anxiety, exposures to antibiotics, being born a female, or food poisoning. [3]
