Review Symptoms
To diagnose IBS, a healthcare provider will start by reviewing the symptoms and looking for a possible pattern in the signs. In general, people with this condition tend to experience abdominal pain and two or more of the following problems:
– A change in the frequency of bowel movements
– Pain gets worse or improves after each bowel movement
– A change in the appearance of stools
You may be diagnosed with IBS if these symptoms have experienced these symptoms at least once per week over the last three months and these problems first occurred at least six months ago. [1]
