Symptoms of IBS
Typical signs and symptoms of IBS include diarrhea, constipation, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and cramping. It is not uncommon for those with this condition to experience episodes of both diarrhea and constipation. Gas and bloating tend to go away right after a bowel movement. These problems do not always persist, but may resolve and recur in the future. Nevertheless, some people would have persistent symptoms. Pain caused by IBS is like cramping and can be characterized by at least 2 of the following features:
– Changes in the appearance of stools
– Changes in the frequency of bowel movements
– Pain relief after a bowel movement [2]
