When to Visit a Doctor
In most cases, constipation is not a serious health issue in children. Nevertheless, when the condition persists and becomes chronic, it would cause a few complications or indicate the presence of an underlying disease. Visit a doctor if your children:
– Experience vomiting, fever, or abdominal pain
– Have swollen or red veins in the rectum
– Experience painful and small tears in the skin around the anal fissures
– Have soft or liquid stools leaking out of their anus
– Cannot push out stools with normal movements
– Cannot perform daily activities due to constipation
– Are constipated for more than two weeks [10]
