Symptoms of Esophageal Cancer that You Should Know

Esophageal cancer is a form of cancer that affects the esophagus, which is a hollow and long tube running from the stomach to the throat. This organ plays an important role in carrying the food to the stomach after being swallowed. The condition typically starts in the cells lining the inside of your esophagus and spreads to other parts of this organ. More men are diagnosed with this health issue than women. Below are some common symptoms of esophageal cancer that you should know.

Chest Pain

A possible sign of esophageal cancer is chest pain. It occurs when cancerous cells grow in size and restrict the passage of food between the stomach and the esophagus. You may feel pain while swallowing or discomfort in the middle of the chest. In some cases, a feeling of burning or pressure may occur in the chest as well. Keep in mind that chest pain does not always indicate esophageal cancer. It may also be caused by other health issues, so make sure to inform your doctor to get a more precise diagnosis. [1]
