What is Patellar Tendinitis (Jumper’s Knee) – 12 Facts to Know

Causes

Jumper’s knee is mostly caused by repetitive stress or pressure on the knee. The overuse of this part, especially in exercises or sports can be a major risk factor. Over time, repetitive stress results in tiny tears on the tendon, which triggers inflammation and weakens the parts. Some other contributing factors include obesity, misaligned ankles or feet, uneven strength of the leg muscles, tight leg muscles, hard playing surfaces, shoes without sufficient padding, as well as chronic diseases that might weaken the tendon. Athletes are at higher risk because activities like squatting, jumping, and running can put more pressure on the patellar tendon. [3]
