Manic Depression

Manic depression, often known as bipolar disorder, is characterized by episodes of hypomania or mania. This means you can have alternating feelings of depression and happiness. To be diagnosed with this condition, a period of mania has to occur in at least one week or must be so serious that hospitalization is necessary. Some typical signs of a manic episode include irritability, reduced sleep, high energy, grandiose thinking, racing speech and thoughts, euphoric feeling, self-destructive behaviors, and increased self-esteem. In more serious cases, you can even have delusions or hallucinations. [2]
